The Market Strategy & Understanding (MSU) Service Line performs strategic research to deliver contextual understanding to help clients navigate dynamic markets. Our offer portfolio consists of strategic brand research as well as category & consumer fundamentals. We work with clients to understand the size and composition of a market as well as the segments/profiles/demand spaces therein. We also specialize in brand equity, brand assets, brand stretch and open category opportunities (e.g. whitespace).
We are looking for a Team Lead in Project Excellence (f/m/d) for our MSU-Team located in Hamburg, Nuermberg or Munich as soon as possible. This position is a hybrid working opportunity and can also be filled on a part-time basis (80%).
Your role
As a seasoned and enthusiastic People Leader, you spearhead our new Project Management Team, driving growth and profitability through high-quality ad hoc research projects. Collaborating closely with Insights Teams, you serve as the primary contact and escalation point for internal teams and external clients. Utilizing your robust research skills and operational expertise, you oversee complex global, multi-country, and multi-method projects. You are a commercially astute, highly organized professional, eager to lead this newly formed team and implement innovative tools to optimize work processes. Your responsibilities will include:
Commercial & Client Relationship Management
- Growth Strategy Responsibility: You will drive the Market Strategy & Understanding growth strategy, focusing on revenue and team results.
- Pitch and Proposal Engagement: You will partner with the Insights Lead to focus on technical design, best-practice setup, and project execution, including risk mitigation, during client pitches and presentations.
- Customized Offer Creation: You will develop bespoke research proposals and cost estimations, negotiating with external suppliers to ensure optimal pricing and quality.
- Cost Center Management: You will manage your cost center alongside leadership to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Customer Needs Understanding: You will identify customer needs and provide custom solutions to ensure the success of their research projects.
- Adherence to Quality and Operational Practices: Maintain strict adherence to operational practices and quality processes.
- Team Commercial Management: You will oversee the team’s commercial management, ensuring precise forecasting, project controlling, pipeline management, and data hygiene in BI systems.
Leadership/People Management
- Leadership Role: You will provide professional and disciplinary leadership to a team of 10+, fostering an inclusive environment and acting as an inspiring role model for our values.
- Operational Efficiency: You will establish new workflows and implement the latest tools, including AI, to enhance project efficiency.
- Collaborative Coordination: You will work effectively with cross-country and cross-functional teams, coordinating with suppliers and internal partners for smooth operations.
- Coaching and Development: You will support the professional development of team members by setting motivating goals aligned with corporate objectives.
Operational Excellence:
- Efficient Project Management: You will ensure the efficient end-to-end management of complex market research projects.
- Holistic Project Oversight: You will take comprehensive responsibility for project planning, scheduling, strategy development, and implementation.
- Commitment to Excellence: You will uphold the highest standards of quality in data collection and processing.
- Strategic Client Advisory: You will provide expert advice on study designs and innovative methodologies to resolve complex client needs and deliver strategic insights.
Your profile
- You have 10+ years of experience in international project management of market research studies on agency side, ideally in ad hoc marketing, market, or brand research.
- Ideally you have worked in a large global agency environment in client-facing roles in the past.
- You have experience in managing mid-size to large teams. Experience in successfully building and developing a newly formed team is a plus.
- You had commercial responsibility (P&L) in the past.
- You have strong operational skills, especially in setting up, conducting, data processing and reporting market research projects
- You have worked with market research platforms (fieldwork, project management and reporting) and are technology minded.
- You have experience in managing small to large, single and muti-country projects
- You are skilled in communication, client orientated, and confident in presenting.
- You work in a structured, independent manner, are flexible and resilient with a high work ethic and standard of quality.
- You enjoy working across teams, internal as well as external stakeholders, show initiative, and navigate confidently in an international environment.
- You are fluent in German and proficient in English.
